Brain wave

Back in 1965 Alvin Lucier performed ‘Music for Solo Performer’ he sat in a chair, was connected to physicist Edmond Dewan’s brain wave equipment producing Amplified brain waves. Have a listen

At the Wonder Street Fair we saw Muscle Controlled Music stand, interesting but very slow. I needed a personal demonstration!

Walk around DEF*GABC*D

On a walk about while DEF*GABC*D is playing in the situation I am trying. The corridor between the studios. The sound piece travels and permeates throughout the whole building subtlety. Getting into the psyche.  Having no beginning, no middle or end, exactly when the piece is encountered is irrelevant and now it is heard wherever you are the time spent with the piece is also immaterial-you do not enter a room listen and leave, the sound follows you around, you cannot escape…

UCA Degree Show – The Time Has Come!!

Deborah Humm
www.deborahhumm.co.uk

My work conveys the miscommunication of brain and body; mind and functionality; thought and action. Articulating rogue communications, misinterpretations, lost and broken signals resulting in random, bizarre and contradictory sensations; loss of control; frustration and annoyance.

Impersonating the practical, biological functionality of the nerves. Heightening our awareness of their electrical pulses doing the everyday mundane, taken for granted action of breathing, blinking, seeing, walking, picking up and holding a pen to write or draw the spark of a thought…

John Cage, Music of Changes 1951

Composed using chance throughout, from start to finish, and in every dimension of the music; sounds, silences, rhythms, dynamics, densities, tempi.  Drawing upon the virtuosity of pianist David Tudor, Cage allowed his compositional process to create a wide variety of musical events at time pile up in thick layers.

Turner Contemporary

Turner Contemporary

Stefania Batoeva

I was introduced to this artist’s work at the Turner Contemporary on Friday with her Idi Amin’s Advice 2013 Audio Loop piece.  The delivery of the piece was through speakers and a stereo all piled up in a tower and placed upon a black solid coloured carpet, which was large enough to invite us the viewer/audience to come in and join the conversation in close homeliness.  Food for thought for my Sound piece-I need to think outside the box…

Then, while following up with the normal research I came across this

Research – Marina Abramovic

Last Day (31 May 2012) The Artist is Present

Have a look at this film clip.  A clever installation of herself, controlling the space and those in it (well the majority) conveying a successful modern day Self Portrait full of raw emotion.
